Essex has always been Ford country

Few counties have a closer relationship with Ford. Dagenham sits on the county’s doorstep and has been building Ford engines and vehicles for generations, and for a long time working for Ford was simply part of life around here.

That history shows on the roads. There are more Fords per mile in Essex than in most of the country, from Fiestas and Focuses on the commuter runs to Transits working out of every trading estate between Basildon and Colchester.

It’s also why a specialist matters here. When Fords are this common, being treated as just another broken car by a general buyer costs you money. We only buy Fords, so we know what each model is genuinely worth with each fault.

The Fords we buy across Essex

Every Ford, car or van, running or not.

The Fiesta is the one we buy most, usually the 1.0 EcoBoost, and usually with wet belt or engine trouble. The Focus follows, most often with clutch, gearbox or engine faults after years on the A12, A13 and M25.

The Kuga comes to us with Powershift and automatic gearbox problems, or diesel emissions faults on older examples. The Puma and EcoSport increasingly arrive with EcoBoost wet belt issues as the early cars age. The Ka and older small Fords are usually finished off by an MOT bill that outweighs the car.

We buy the larger family Fords too, the Mondeo, C-Max, B-Max, S-Max and Galaxy, where one serious repair rarely adds up against the value.

And we buy Ford vans and pickups: the Transit, Transit Custom, Transit Connect and Transit Courier, plus the Ranger, at any mileage and in any condition. Essex has a huge number of self-employed trades, and a van off the road stops earning from day one, so we make those collections quick. Our guide to selling a broken Transit or van covers the commercial side in detail.

If it’s a Ford and it isn’t listed, ask anyway. We’ll value it.

The Faults We See Most In Essex Fords

Wet belt failure on 1.0 EcoBoost engines. Fitted to the Fiesta, Focus and Puma, and the single most common reason people contact us. Ford’s EcoBoost belt runs inside the engine, bathed in oil, rather than outside like a conventional cambelt, which makes replacing it a much bigger, more labour-heavy job. If the belt starts breaking up, debris can block the oil pickup and starve the engine, and at that point you’re buying an engine rather than a belt. That’s usually where repairing stops making sense.

Powershift and automatic gearbox faults. Mostly the Kuga and Focus. They shudder, hesitate and jerk between gears long before they fail outright, and it’s one of the most expensive repairs a Ford can hand you.

High-mileage engine and clutch failure. Essex is commuter country. The daily run into London, and the miles piled on along the A12, A13, M11 and M25, wear out clutches, turbos and engines.

Vans that have stopped earning. Transits worn out by trade use, with clutch, gearbox or EcoBlue diesel faults.

MOT failures. On an older Ford, two or three failures together, corrosion, suspension, brake lines, emissions, will take the bill past what the car is worth.

Corrosion on the estuary and coast. Salt air along the Thames estuary and the Essex coast works into the underside of a car and stays there, usually surfacing without warning as an MOT failure.

Whatever the fault, and whether or not it’s been diagnosed, we’ll buy the Ford as it stands. You don’t need to know what’s wrong to sell it.

Repair it or sell it?

If a garage has handed you a bill worth more than the car, that’s an aggravating place to be, and it’s where most people are when they call us. Spending serious money on a car that won’t be worth much more afterwards rarely makes sense, and deciding it’s done its time is a perfectly sensible call.

The maths is one comparison: what the repair costs against what the Ford is worth as it stands today, with the fault on it. If the quote is close to the value or above it, selling usually wins. If it’s a sound car you’d keep for years, repairing may still be right, and we’ll tell you so, because we’d rather be straight with you than buy a car you shouldn’t sell.

Our guide on repairing versus selling your Ford runs through the whole decision.

What your Ford is worth

Almost always more than owners expect, and rarely just scrap money.

Model, mileage, specification, the fault and the condition of everything else all count. A Fiesta with a failed wet belt but a straight body is a very different proposition to one with structural accident damage. Trims like ST-Line, Titanium and Vignale keep their appeal even on a car that needs work, because those parts stay in demand. A Transit that’s covered big miles but been serviced properly is worth considerably more than a neglected one with far fewer.

Because we only buy Fords, we price what’s actually left in the car. A general buyer sees a broken car. We see a specific model, with a known fault, that has a real value in parts, salvage or repair.

Can I sell my Ford in Essex if it isn't driveable?

Yes. Non-runners are a core part of what we buy, whatever the cause. We collect from anywhere in the county, so there's no recovery for you to arrange.

Can I sell my Ford without an MOT?

Yes. You don't need a valid MOT to sell a car. We collect it, so it never needs to be driven or tested.

Do you buy Fords with wet belt failure?

Yes, and it's the most common reason owners contact us, particularly on 1.0 EcoBoost Fiestas, Focuses and Pumas. The repair often costs more than the car is worth, but the car itself usually still holds real value.

Can I sell a Ford on finance?

In most cases, yes. Tell us the outstanding settlement figure when you enquire, and it's deducted from our offer, so you clear the balance with your finance company. It's a routine situation.

Do you buy written-off Fords?

Yes, both Cat S and Cat N. The category forms part of the valuation rather than a reason we can't buy the car.

How quickly can you collect in Essex?

Often the same day, at a time that suits you.
